About the event
ArtsClub's Studio Session | Art Theory in Renaissance Italy: Line vs. Color
6:30 to 8:30 PM
Each Studio Session includes a 15 minute art history lesson followed by a hands-on art-making workshop inspired by your selected artist or movement.
Learn how to make your own Renaissance pigments with a crash course on Renaissance art theory.
Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574) was an influential art theorist biographer and painter and his writings helped shape the course and reception of Renaissance art. Vasari cultivated a lively competition amongst Italian cities with distinct stylistic approaches to painting drawing attention to the Venetians' preference for color-dominated compositions for instance and the Florentines' tendency towards crisp lines.
In this lesson you’ll explore why cities like Florence and Venice developed such distinct styles and learn how to mix your own pigments in egg tempera a classic Renaissance medium.
